Baltijas jūras piekraste man vienmēr ir bijusi mīļa atpūtas vieta Latvijā, augot es izbaudīju pavadīt laiku pie jūras neatkarīgi no gadalaika, jo jūra bija tikai pusstundas attālumā no galvaspilsētas. Jūra man asociējas tikai ar pozitīvām atmiņām un pavadītu laiku, bet dalība šajā projektā man ir pierādījusi, ka nevienmēr citiem ir tāda pati pieredze.
Kopš iesaistījos šajā projektā esmu pārsteigta par iegūto informāciju par piesārņojumu Baltijas jūrā. Es izvēlējos strādāt ar aļģu tēmu, jo man bija radusies ilūzija, ka aļģes nav tik ļoti kaitīgas. Izšujot savu darbu es izmantoju biopolimēra fliterus, kas piedod augam līdzīgu faktūru un materialitāti, izmantoju stikla pērlītes spīdumam un pašās beigās uzbēru smiltis lai atbilst tuvāk izskalotām aļģēm. Izšūtās bārkstis piedod kustību darbam un plīvo vējā izceļot alģes atbilstību dzīvē.
Piedaloties šajā projektā es esmu nonākusi pie secinājuma, ka tīri un sakopti jūras krasti ir privilēģija; es novērtēju un esmu iemīlējusi mūsu Baltijas krastu vēl vairāk kā pirms tam.

The Baltic Sea has always been the perfect holiday destination in Latvia, always growing up I enjoyed my time by the sea no matter summer or winter, it was a quick change of scenery only within 30 minutes away from the capital. I have always had positive memories and intentions with the beautiful seaside and nature, turns out it might not be the case for all of us.
When I joined this project and researched more the issue with pollution in the Baltic Sea I was genuinely surprised by many of the polluters and where they stem from. I decided to create my piece inspired by the algae that fills the sea in rapid speed - seeming not that serious while actually being a large problem for all countries surrounding the Baltic Sea to deal with. In the piece I used biopolymer sequins that give the plant - like look and texture, added sparkle with beads and used sand to neutralise the materials a little bit. The fringe at the bottom of the frame has movement in the wind and emphasizes the materiality and life-like movement of the algae.
Participating in this project I have come to a conclusion that us having clean coasts in Latvia for holidays is a privilege as not all of Baltic Sea coast is the same; I honour our beaches, seaside and environment more because of this project.
